Beautifully directed and edited, and the secret was kept very well. -- Award proposed and description written by Stabbey.
IVy Leagues Hall of Fame
2006 Theme: Saturday Morning Cartoons
- Between cartoon-dedicated cable channels and the increased popularity of prime time animation since the birth of The Simpsons in 1989, there are now more original animated shows on the air in America than at any other point in television history. However, cartoons were not always this easy to find. Some of us remember a time when "cartoons" meant waking up early on your one day off, treading into the living room in your superhero- or Sesame Street-themed pajamas, eating a sugary cereal that was a delicious part of this complete, balanced breakfast, and watching the animated fare of one of the three major networks. This year, the TV IV salutes those Saturday morning cartoons of yesteryear—the ones which launched pop culture empires, the ones which reintroduced theatrical cartoons to TV audiences, and the ones which were just plain good. For as long as this site exists, these five series will be in the IVy Leagues Hall of Fame, and will have been officially recognized by the editors of this site as true all-time television classics. -- Summary by JCaesar
Note that to be eligible for the IVy Leagues Hall of Fame, a show must no longer be airing, and it must have either premiered at least ten years prior to the current year's IVy Awards eligibility date cut-off (this year, on or before May 31, 1996) or had its finale date at least five years prior (on or before May 31, 2001).
- The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Hour: (Premiered September 14, 1968. Finale March 8, 1969.) The Bugs Bunny Show, in all its various Saturday morning incarnations, ran for over thirty years, and to entire generations of kids (my own included), Saturday morning cartoons were Looney Tunes cartoons. Bugs Bunny and the Looney Tunes characters have been almost continuously popular since their debuts in the 1940s and 50s, and it is largely due to these compilation shows. The late 60s Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Hour was the first Saturday morning incarnation (as The Bugs Bunny Show was a primetime series in the US). The show was called The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Hour because it was a combination of the primetime The Bugs Bunny Show and the Saturday morning The Road Runner Show. -- Summary by JCaesar
- Schoolhouse Rock: (Premiered January 6, 1973. Finale May 1, 1996). You ask anyone about how a bill becomes a law, they're going to subconsciously roll that song through their head. It may have not been a show in the proper sense, but it should count since it was broadcast between 1973 and 1986. -- Summary by IndieRockLance
- Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!: (Premiered September 13, 1969. Finale October 31, 1970.) The cartoon that spawned an empire and has been largely responsible for the resurgence in interest in classic Saturday morning cartoons in the present. -- Summary by JCaesar
