Michael announces his engagement to his family, who fear that Rita is after the now-nonexistent Bluth fortune. But when they learn that she is both mentally challenged and very wealthy, they try to rush the wedding before Michael learns the truth.

Notes

Arc Advancement

Happenings

  • Michael Love Marry: Michael and Rita call off the wedding when Michael realizes that she is mentally challenged. Rita goes back to England with her uncle.

Characters

  • Tobias: The hairplugs that Tobias had installed have crippled him, causing him to lose function in his legs and left arm. During the "next time" segment, his hair is set ablaze by GOB's trick.
  • Larry: Larry, George Sr.'s surrogate, is fired after spilling about Rita's mental issues.

Referbacks

  • Good Grief!: Trevor comments on Rita's maturity in the same way that Michael once commented on George Michael's maturity in regards to sexuality.
Rita: And I want to have pop-pop!
Trevor: Well, the very fact that you call it that, tells me you're not ready.
  • Visiting Ours: Rita's comment is a throwback to George Sr.'s declaration to his son while in prison, "Daddy horny."
Rita: Rita corny.

Trivia

The Show

  • Monster: The picture used for Rita's pre-plastic surgery photo was a picture of Charlize Theron from the film Monster. Theron gained 30 pounds and ditched her usual glamorous look to portray murderer Aileen Wuornos.

Behind the Scenes

  • Awards: For her role as Rita in this episode, Charlize Theron was nominated for an IVy Award for the 2005-06 season for Best Guest Actor or Actress in a Comedy Series. This episode was also nominated as Best Individual Episode of a Comedy Series.
  • Scheduling: This episode was originally scheduled for November 14th, 2005, but it was pushed off by FOX in order to avoid November sweeps due to low ratings.

Allusions and References

  • Mr. Roboto: Buster is shown doing the robot inside the stair car to Styx's Mr. Roboto. Tony Hale, who plays Buster, appeared in a commercial doing the same thing inside a parked Volkswagon.
  • Blossom: While Michael and George Sr. wait for Rita to show up at the hotel, they watch an E! True Hollywood Story on Mayim Bialik, who played the title character on the 90's series Blossom.
  • Parliament: In order to tell whether Rita was retarded or not, Michael asks how many houses the British Parliament has. She answers seven, and the narrator corrects her, saying that it is three. In fact, just like the United States Congress, the UK's Parliament is bicameral, with the House of Lords and the House of Commons.

Memorable Moments

Quotes

  • Michael: I can't believe you're not supporting this.
George, Sr.: Because it is obvious what she's after.
    Lucille: Our money.
    Buster: Oh, God, our money!
Michael: Let's just all relax, and remind ourselves that we don't have any money.
Buster: She's already gotten our money!
