Biography
Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (pronounced ADD-EH-WALLY AKIN-YU-OH-YAY AG-BAH-JAY) was born on August 22, 1967 in London, England. He was raised in England, along with his four sisters, after his parents moved from Nigeria. Adewale is fluent in several languages, including English, Italian, Swahili, and Yoruba. He attended Kings College at the University of London, graduating with a Master of Laws.
Adewale began his career as a model in Milan, Italy before moving to Los Angeles, California to begin acting. He began his acting career in the movie Congo, which led to appearances in the films Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995) and Congo (1995). He has appeared in the American version of Cracker and New York Undercover. However, it was Adewale's portrayal of Simon Adebisi in the television series Oz that led to critical and audience acclaim, as well as two NAACP Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Adewale left Oz to focus on a film career and appeared in The Mummy Returns (2001) and The Bourne Identity (2002). He has since returned to television, joining the cast of Lost in its second season as Eko.
