Mary McDonnell is an American actress with a long, distinguished career in film and stage. She co-starred as a White woman raised by the American Indians in the 1990 Academy Award winner for Best Picture Dances with Wolves, as the First Lady of the United States in the 1996 smash blockbuster Independence Day, and as the titular hero's mother in the 2001 cult hit Donnie Darko. In television, she is best known as President Laura Roslin in the 2000's remake of the sci-fi classic Battlestar Galactica.
