• One of four children born to Tennessee College basketball coach Clifford Neal and his wife Florence. Has three sisters Pam, Phyllis and Peggy.
• Is of German descent.
• Raised in Grove City, Pennsylvania
• Studied drama at Temple University in Philadelphia
• Graduated from Ohio Wesleyan in 1974
• Was personal dresser at one time for singer/dancer/actress Shirley MacLaine.
• Met Ken Olin when both were cast in a 1982 production of "A Streetcar Named Desire" who she later married the same year and had 2 children, Clifford (b. 1983)) & Roxanne (b.1986).
• Earned a master's degree in playwriting from Smith College in May 2001.
• Was a finalist in 2005 for the Blackburn Prize, awarded annually for an outstanding new English-language play by a woman, for her play, "My Andy",the story of Andy Warhol's relationship with his mother.
