  • Restating my belief that this will be one of the best (if not the single best) new series of the fall. The pilot was amazingly solid and if Sorkin's previous series are any indication, it should be one of the most interesting drama/comedys to come to network television in a long while. --IndieRockLance 21:31, 5 September 2006 (EDT)
  • I cast my vote for this in September but withdrew it when I realized it would not run through the whole month. Now that I see it in a month in which it will run month-long, I'm happy to vote for it again for all the reasons I previously stated. All due respect to The Venture Bros., a good show with a solid fanbase, I'm voting for a show with vast, mainstream appeal which is also actually good. -- JCaesartalk 08:40, 24 September 2006 (EDT)
  • If the current ratings are any indication, it might not make it through October. Probably isn't a good idea to feature a show that gets cancelled before the month ends. --MateoP 09:22, 24 September 2006 (EDT)
    • Uh, what? You have no idea what you're talking about, do you? One, the episode was made widely available before it aired. Two, Aaron Sorkin is a known awards/rating maker for NBC. Three, The West Wing started off with iffy ratings for the first few episodes but then it took off. Four, the ratings weren't even that bad. It got a 8.6/14, which is pretty respectable when it's put up against the CSI season premiere. Five, you can never judge the future of a show by the pilot's ratings unless it's astonishingly good or astonishingly bad. Six, NBC has come out and said that they were pleased with the show's performance against a known hit. Would you like me to list more reasons why your statement is incredibly unfounded? Because I think I can do that. --IndieRockLance 11:20, 24 September 2006 (EDT)
      • Seven: NBC, perhaps because it is in last place, has had a tendency in recent years to stick with shows in which it has faith despite slow starts—cf. My Name Is Earl, The Office—and it had/has a lot of faith in Studio 60. I believe the exact quote from TV Guide is, "a network savior." Even if the ratings were abysmal (they weren't), NBC isn't likely to pull the plug quite that quickly. But, let's face it, all that's moot, because that's not really why you voted against it, now, is it, MateoP? -- JCaesartalk 15:02, 24 September 2006 (EDT)
      • Yeah, I do actually. An 8.6 is not decent when it followed up a 10.2 Deal or No Deal. It lost a significant amout of viewers in the second half. Being matched up against CSI doesn't mean anything, almost every timeslot on TV has a juggernaut to compete with. And Studio 60 had bigger lead-in than CSI had; CSI improved on its lead-in, Studio 60 dropped significantly. Additionally, having decent ratings is bad when you have an large and expensive cast, plus all of the money Sorkin himself must be making. I'm not saying its going to get cancelled before the end of October, but it's a possibility, and being moved around is also a big possibility (both because of bad ratings and a different type of audience from Deal or No Deal) and I don't think we should be featuring a show like that, so that's why I voted against it. --MateoP 15:56, 24 September 2006 (EDT)
        • No, you really don't. Deal or No Deal is an established hit for NBC, as CSI: Miami is for CBS. Rarely will a new show crack those types of ratings with its pilot, particularly when the pilot has already been seen by most of the audience to whom NBC caters, and was a hit there. (NBC is rather proud of being at the forefront of iPod generation marketing, which is to be expected from the network whose own logo celebrates its having been the first to switch to color.) And you did say it would be cancelled before the end of October. Is it possible that it will be cancelled before the end of October? Yes. Anything is possible. But given NBC's recent stick-to-it-iveness (they let Joey run for 40 episodes, for Christ's sake! And it stayed in the same timeslot throughout the run, thank you), it's about as likely as FOX News giving Phil Donahue his own show. Further, not every timeslot has a juggernaut. The 8:00-9:00 hour is an open field on almost every night this season (except Tuesdays, with House an established hit, and possibly Mondays for Prison Break). The 9:00-10:00 hour is only locked down on Wednesdays with Lost, and Thursday is going to be the Grey's Anatomy vs. CSI no-holds-barred royal rumble. The 10:00-11:00 hour has a major player on almost every night of the week, granted, but only because of the initials shows: CSI, L&O and ER. (This is weeknights only. Weekends are going to be ruled by football through January, as Mondays have been for the last 20 years. Plus 60 Minutes, The Simpsons et al. and Desperate Housewives are going to keep their audiences.) So you're really just pulling rationalizations out of your colon to hide the real reason you voted against the show, which, let's face it, is painfully obvious to anybody with an IQ above 20. -- JCaesartalk 16:18, 24 September 2006 (EDT)
        • Why don't you wait until Tuesday when the ratings for this week's episode airing out of Heroes come in so the lead-in and preavailablity issues no longer exist before pronouncing judgement of imminent death. The-jam 00:16, 25 September 2006 (EDT)
          • Very good point. Then again, even if Heroes turns out to be a huge bomb, and the ratings for Studio 60 drop, which is more likely: That NBC will lay the blame on the hard-sell genre, untested show from the creator of Crossing Jordan whose biggest name stars are Ali Larter and that guy who played sidekick on Alias, or the star-studded-to-galactic-proportions drama from the creator of their last hour-long, non-reality show hit which was also an Emmy-printing machine? If something moves or dies out, it almost definitely ain't gonna be Studio 60. -- JCaesartalk 00:36, 25 September 2006 (EDT)
    • Making in a ratings-based judgement on a show that has aired once is ridiculous. I'm not sure your vote had an ulterior motive, but your contradictory statements have me wondering. ("Probably isn't a good idea to feature a show that gets cancelled before the month ends." vs. "I'm not saying its going to get cancelled before the end of October") --CygnusTMtalk 15:54, 25 September 2006 (EDT)
      • Then don't make a ratings-based judgment after one episode if you think it's ridiculous. I certainly don't think it's ridiculous and will oppose for that reason. There is no contradictory statements, that's you assuming bad faith based on what your paranoid partner thinks. I said that it might not make it (i used the word might) in both comments. And because it isn't good to feature a show that gets cancelled, I oppose those which are at risk. I shouldn't have to justify everything I say. And I don't have to use your or anyone else's opinion on ratings in order to oppose because of ratings concerns. It's my judgment, my vote. Vote the other way if you disagree. --MateoP 16:04, 25 September 2006 (EDT)
  • Voting against, not because I have anything against Studio 60 -- in fact, I thought the pilot was amazing and it might be the first Aaron Sorkin show I watch regularly -- but because it's good enough to go the distance, so we'll have plenty of other chances to nominate it. Meanwhile, shows like Venture Bros. and Doctor Who only come 'round with 13 episodes a year, granting us few solid chances to nominate them. I'd prefer to hold the Studio 60 nom for a later month, perhaps November or February. -- Lampbane 12:13, 25 September 2006 (EDT)
    • What Lampbane said. --CygnusTMtalk 15:54, 25 September 2006 (EDT)
      • Saving my vote for sweeps. --Ryvius 17:10, 28 September 2006 (EDT)
  • Not sure where to insert my two cents in the above, so I'll do it here: I saw Studio 60 on DVD (along with Kidnapped) through Netflix, and so didn't see the pilot when it aired (and didn't see Kidnapped's normal airing of its pilot either, whenever it aired, I know it aired, just don't recall which night). I plan on watching the second episode of both series, and it is way too early to be talking about ratings when the series does not yet have its normal lead-in, and at least 1 person skipped the series premire on purpose(and who (that 1 person), of course, has no ability to change Nielsen ratings). My point? Don't be so fast on judging the ratings for the series. MikeBriggs 16:29, 25 September 2006 (EDT)

  • Nominating this again because it will wrap up its second season in October, the episode guide here is fairly up-to-date, and seeing how it was over a year between the first and second seasons, who knows when we'll get a good chance to spotlight it again? -- Lampbane 23:51, 5 September 2006 (EDT)
    • It has already been confirmed for a third season, mostly becuase of DVD sales, and since Cartoon Network didn't wait so long, the next season will likely show up sooner. Either way, I love Venture Brothers and want to support it here. --Ryvius 17:10, 28 September 2006 (EDT)
  • I had planned to vote for Studio 60, but since I am confident it will be around for November, I'll save it for next month and vote for this, since it seems like it's now or never. --CygnusTMtalk 15:54, 25 September 2006 (EDT)
  • See MateoP notes in the Studio 60 section. Apparently Studio 60 will likely be gone before Spring 2006 without support, so it should be featured to try to add support to a good show (yes, this is the reason he voted against featuring Studio 60). MikeBriggs 16:29, 25 September 2006 (EDT)

  • The latest season starts airing on the Sci Fi Channel at the beginning of October and its pages are all extremely well filled out since it already aired in the UK. Before someone else mentions it the other shows being nominated are all only airing in the US (and maybe Canada) at this time any ways so the fact that it aired in the UK already should not really be held against it. -The-jam 00:16, 25 September 2006 (EDT)
    • Even though I agree, especially since one of the best episodes airs the last week in October, I pledge my alliegance to the Venture Brothers. --Ryvius 17:10, 28 September 2006 (EDT)
