- Both Jeff and John Billingsley, who both played Terrence Steadman on Prison Break have also appeared in Grey's Anatomy.
- Has one daughter, Zoe Perry (b. 1984) with ex-wife Laurie Metcalf.
- Both women also play the same character in two related shows: Metcalf plays Mary Cooper, the mother of Sheldon Cooper, on The Big Bang Theory, while Perry plays a young Mary Cooper on its prequel spinoff series Young Sheldon.
- Started the "Steppenwolf Theatre Company" in 1975 along with Gary Sinise and Terry Kinney, after performing plays informally in a church basement in Highland Park.
