• Cameo: Mykelti Williamson makes a cameo appearance as the detective on the scene at Laird McSweeney's office. The detective is Det. Bobby Smith, the character Williamson played in the NBC series Boomtown. Graham Yost created both Boomtown and Raines.
• Posters: Sandy's apartment is full of film noir posters, including Double Indemnity.

[edit] Behind the Scenes

• Location: Sandy's apartment building is the exact same building where Elliott Gould lived in The Long Goodbye, directed by Robert Altman. In the film, Gould played Phillip Marlowe, a private detective who becomes wrapped up in proving that his friend didn't kill his wife. Marlowe is referenced by name in Raines' opening monologue, which is interesting because he also says that the scenes from detective movies don't cross over into his reality.
