Lost/Character Connections

There are a number of bizarre coincidences involving the connections between the charaters back stories on Lost. They have either mysteriously met each other before or had dealings with the same people or places in their pasts. This is a listing of all the strange connections between the characters. Note: This list does not include meetings in the airport while waiting for the plane or obvious family connections since those are expected and not strange.

Season 1

• Sawyer met Christian Shephard, Jack's father, in a bar in Australia. Sawyer may have bought him the bottle of alcohol that contributed to his heart attack and death. Christian gave Sawyer advice that led him to murder an innocent man. (1x16 - Outlaws)
• Sawyer slept with Mary Jo, the woman who announced the lottery numbers in which Hurley won the Mega Lotto Jackpot. (1x16 - Outlaws | 1x18 - Numbers)
• The first time Jin went to the Korean Secretary of Environmental Protection, Hurley could be seen on television in the background. (1x17 - ...in Translation)
• Hurley is the majority shareholder of the box company in Tustin, California that Locke worked for. (1x04 - Walkabout | 1x18 - Numbers)
• Emily Locke (John Locke's real mother), Leonard Simms and Hurley were all committed in the Santa Rosa Mental Health Institute. (1x18 - Numbers | 1x19 - Deus Ex Machina)
• Boone was in an Australian police station at the same time as Sawyer. Sawyer ended up being dragged off in handcuffs after a bar fight. (1x13 - Hearts and Minds)
• Hurley and Charlie were staying at the same hotel in Sydney. (1x24 - Exodus, Part 2)
• Steve and Michael and Walt were staying at the same hotel in Sydney. (1x24 - Exodus, Part 2)

Season 2

• Sarah, Jack's future wife, was driving the vehicle that hit the SUV of Adam Rutherford, Shannon's father. In the ER, Jack could only save one patient and chose to work on Sarah. Later he passed Shannon in the hospital as she and her step-mother learn of her father's death. (2x01 - Man of Science, Man of Faith | 2x06 - Abandoned)
• Jack met Desmond when he was training for his race around the world in Los Angeles. (2x01 - Man of Science, Man of Faith)
• Hurley's boss at Mr. Cluck's Chicken Shack, Randy, was Locke's superior at the box company. (2x04 - Everybody Hates Hugo)
• When Kate goes to see Sam Austen, her step-father, at an Army recruiting center, Sayid can be briefly seen on TV in the background. (2x09 - What Kate Did)
• Sawyer was served by Diane Jansen, Kate's mother, when he met his con partner at a diner. (2x13 - The Long Con)
• Sam Austen met with Sayid in the Gulf War in order to get Sayid to help him find a missing pilot. (2x14 - One of Them)
• When Locke worked as a home inspector, he inspected a house being bought by Nadia, Sayid's long-lost love and childhood friend. (2x17 - Lockdown)
• Libby was in the Santa Rosa Mental Health Institute with Hurley. This is the same hospital Emily Locke was in. (2x18 - Dave)
• Ana-Lucia went to Australia to act as a bodyguard for Christian Shephard and witnessed an argument between him and a woman named Lindsey, who was Claire's aunt. (2x20 - Two for the Road)
• Eko investigated the "resurrection" of the daughter of the pyschic who put Claire on the plane. (2x21 - ?)
• Libby met Desmond in a coffee shop and gave him her late husband's sailboat to use in a race. The boat is named "Elizabeth" after her. This is the same boat Desmond crashed on the island. (2x23 - Live Together, Die Alone)
• Desmond was rescued by Kelvin Inman and brought inside the Swan. Kelvin Inman met Sayid during the Gulf War and had him torture his superior officer for information. (2x23 - Live Together, Die Alone, 2x14 - One of Them)

Season 3

• Desmond ran into Charlie outside Widmore Industries. (3x08 - Flashes Before Your Eyes)
• Claire revealed to be Jack's half-sister by way of Christian Shepard (3x12 - Par Avion)
• Cassidy, the mother of Sawyer's daughter, helped Kate talk to her mother without getting caught by the Marshall using skills Sawyer taught her. (3x15 - Left Behind)
• Anthony Cooper, Locke's father, was the con man that conned Sawyer's (James Ford) parents. This con was directly responsible for their deaths and Sawyer adopted the name Cooper used during the con. (3x19 - The Brig)
• Charlie saves Nadia, Sayid's lost love, from a man attacking her in an alley. She calls him a hero which he described as one of the best moments of his life. (3x21 - Greatest Hits)

Season 4

• The cop that interrogates Hurley after his high speed chase was Ana-Lucia's ex-partner, Mike Walton. (4x01 - The Beginning of the End)
• While his consciousness was jumping back and forth between 1996 and 2004 Desmond visited Faraday in 1996 to help him stop the time jumping. (4x05 - The Constant)
• Sun was watching the episode of Exposé in which Nikki's character is killed when she went into labor. (4x07 - Ji Yeon)
