Season Eighteen of Wheel of Fortune premiered on September 4, 2000.

They got a new theme called "Happy Wheels", which used the opening bars from "Changing Keys" at the beginning.
Charlie no longer opens the show with "From the Sony Pictures Studios...". Now all he does is simply introduce Pat and Vanna.
This is when they started the Toss-Up Puzzles in rounds 1 and 4. Whoever got them right would start the game.
During speed-up rounds, they added background music.
The $1,000 space on the wheel was retired. Now, they put the $2,500 space on the wheel during round 1. Now, they use the $3,500 space on the wheel in rounds 2 and 3.
For the first few weeks of the season, the bonus round version of "Happy Wheels" was played during the closing credits.
