Season Ten of The Walking Dead premiered on October 6, 2019.

Prior to the premiere, it was announced that this will be Danai Gurira's final season. It was also announced that Lauren Cohan will return at some point this season.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only 15 of the 16 episodes ordered for this season were completed. The sixteenth episode, originally the season 10 finale, was in post-production when the pandemic forced production to shut down. It was initially to air as a special before it was announced that it would be a regular episode with production resuming later in the year for an additional six episodes for the season, making it the highest episode order of any season. With these last six episodes airing in 2021, this would also make the season the longest span-wise. Due to the safety restrictions brought on by the pandemic, these last six episodes serve as bottle episodes with a limited amount of cast and stick to a single story thread per episode.
