Basic Information

Before Oceanic 815

Frank Lapidus was a pilot with Oceanic Airlines. He was scheduled to pilot Oceanic Flight 815 from Sydney to Los Angeles on the day it disappeared, but was replaced by his friend Seth Norris.

After Oceanic 815

Frank was working at an island travel and tour agency operating in Eleuthera, The Bahamas when news of the discovery of the wreckage of Oceanic 815 was announced. Footage from the wreckage at the bottom of the Sunda Trench was broadcast, including video of the bodies inside the flight deck. Since Frank knew the pilot well and knew that Seth always wore his wedding ring, he realized that the body in the wreckage could not be the real pilot, since there was no ring on the hand of the body shown on TV. He contacted the National Transportation Safety Board's Oceanic 815 hotline to tell them of the discrepancy and was connected to an unidentified man who suggested the ring simply fell off during the crash. Frank insisted the body wasn't Seth's. He was eventually recruited as a member of an expedition to the island, an expedition organized by Matthew Abaddon.

Season Four

Frank piloted a helicopter from the freighter to the island when it experienced electrical problems during a storm. Daniel Faraday, Miles Straume and Charlotte Lewis bailed out of the helicopter as Frank fought to bring it back under control. He eventually managed to land it intact and suffered only minor injuries. With his satellite phone damaged in the landing, Frank launched a signal flare into the air and was reached by Jack, Kate, Sayid, Juliet, Daniel and Miles. Frank had his wounds treated by Juliet and learned her name. As he memorized the entire 324-passenger flight manifest, he realized Juliet wasn't on the flight but a "native" and announced the discovery to Miles. Miles demanded to know where Benjamin Linus was, telling them they were on the island to find him. With Charlotte taken hostage, Frank struck a deal with Sayid: he was to get Charlotte back safely in exchange for a trip to the freighter. Miles accompanied Sayid, but Sayid returned with Charlotte and no Miles. He learned Sayid had traded with John Locke, giving him Miles for Charlotte. Frank knew Sayid had cheated, but Miles was a pain in the ass and he decided to honor their agreement. He left for the freighter with Sayid, Desmond and Naomi Dorrit's body.
