Plot Overview

Giles takes the potentials on a vision quest, except for Kennedy who fakes being sick so as to spend some time with Willow. However, their date comes to an abrupt end when Willow finds herself appearing as Warren.

Meanwhile, Spike’s chip has begun malfunctioning, leading he and Buffy to revisit the Initiative for answers. The remainder of the Scoobies get a phone call that causes them to ponder if Giles has been assumed by the First.

Notes

Monster of the Week

  • There's no monster of the week in this episode, as it deals mainly with Amy being crazy. You could count the anonymous demon in the Initiative base, but it was barely in the episode.

Arc Advancement

Happenings

  • Potentials: Yet another potential is introduced in this episode, albeit off-screen. Chao Ahn is in the car with the other girls.

Characters

  • Willow: Willow finally discovers that Kennedy is gay and the two make out. She also comes to terms with Tara's death.
  • Spike: Spike's chip from when he was captured by the Initiative is going all wonky and is sending massive jolts of pain through his brain.
  • Amy: After her appearance in "Doublemeat Palace", Amy has since joined the UC Sunnydale wicca group to learn to control her reckless magic using. Or so she says.

Referbacks

  • 5x18 - Intervention: The girls go on the same vision quest to see the original slayer as Buffy did in the fifth season.
Giles: And then, apparently, someone told them that the vision quest consists of me driving them to the desert, doing the hokey pokey until a spooky Rasta-mama slayer arrives and speaks to them in riddles.
  • 7x08 - Sleeper: Robson was shown being killed in a previous episode. The episode ended on the axe being swung at Giles.
Xander: Robson blacked out, but the last thing he remembers is Giles's head about to get really familiar with a Bringer's very sharp axe.
  • 4x21 - Primeval: Buffy and Spike return to the headquarters of the Initiative, a secret government group who experimented on demons. The headquarters was destroyed by demons before it was abandoned.
  • 4x10 - Hush: Willow revists the Wanna-Blessed-Bes, the coven that she met Tara in.
  • 6x19 - Seeing Red: Willow buys the same gun that Warren used to attempt to kill Buffy with.
Shopkeeper: So, same model as last time? How'd that work out for you?

Memorable Moments

Goofs

  • When "Warren" is talking to Buffy, Andrew is seen touching "him" in one shot, but not in the next, then again in the shot after that.

Quotes

  • Buffy: Remember when things used to be nice and boring?
Willow: No.
  • Spike: Who you gonna call? (beat) God, that phrase is never gonna be usable again, is it?
  • Anya: We thought you might be non-corporeal evil.
Dawn: We got a call. We couldn't remember you touching anything.
Xander: We had to make sure you were okay. We were worried.
Giles: Oh. That's very sweet. Now, wait a minute. You thought... You think I'm evil if I bring a group of girls on a camping trip and don't touch them?
  • Initiative General: Agent Finn reported that you tried to contact him earlier today.
Buffy: I knew it! Government conspiracy.
Initiative General: He indicated you might be needing our assistance. We're to provide you anything you need to help ass-face here. (off her look) Those were his exact words, ma'am.
  • Kennedy: Undo it. Let her out.
Amy: Okay. Oh, wait, I forgot. No.
