Death to the Queen is the second episode of the first season of Queen of Swords, and the second episode overall.

Plot Overview

Peasants are disappearing to be used as slaves in a secret gold mine run by Colonel Montoya who wants the gold to buy cannon from the expected supply ship. Expecting The Queen to try and thwart his plans, Montoya lays a trap to kill The Queen. The new doctor arrives in town and does not endear himself to Tessa Alvarado, but there paths cross again at a party when Montoya has The Queen trapped and the doctor finally meets The Queen at the mine in a thrilling climax.

Notes

First episode to be filmed and by Jon Cassar (24) to set the style for the series. The soldiers uniforms with the red trousers were considered too "Opera" and changed in subsequent episodes.

Characters

Dr Helm arrives in Santa Helena employed by Colonel Montoya to tend to the needs of his soldiers and local peasants.

Dr Helm's first meeting with Tessa does not go well. Later he meets the Queen of Swords for the first time.

Vera flirts with Dr Helm.

Marta "reads" the doctor's hand and learns of the past that torment's him


It is one of two episodes, the other being "Betrayed", where all seven characters appear.

The Show

Unused takes from the final scene are used in the episodes The Pact and Kidnapped.

Behind the Scenes

The uniforms were changed after this episode as being unrealstic for a backwater province of Spain.

Continuity error on the beach. The Queen gets on a soldiers horse but rides off on her own horse, Chico.

Allusions and References

Montoya refers to "The skin of the Fox" when handed part of The Queens shirt. This is the only reference in the series that could be attributed to Zorro.
