Basic Information
Character History
Before becoming a doctor, Helm was an officer in the British Army, sometimes working as a spy (Ep 4), fighting in the Napoleonic Wars. Sickened by the killing he both did and witnessed (Ep 10) he turned to medicine, becoming a doctor, and vowed not to kill again. His prospective father in law, believing he was a coward, refused to allow him to marry his intended bride, Camilla, (Ep 15). She instead married the sadistic sea captain, Charles Wentworth. Helm left England and by way of America and Texas (Ep 2) was employed by Colonel Montoya to tend to his soldiers and the local citizenry.
He has no time for Tessa and disapproves of the Queen when she kills even if it is to save his life "You don't have permission to kill for me" (Ep 8). He again admonishes the Queen when she accidently kills his escort from the Serpientes camp "Another one...?" (Ep 10).
Memorable Moments
- The sword fight in Vengeance between Helm and Latham. The profanity "Bastard" uttered by Dr. Helm is deleted in some versions.
- The episode The Serpent develops the relationship between The Queen and Dr. Helm. The death of El Serpiente is shortened in some versions.
