Plot Overview
1817, Tessa Alvarado finishing her education in Madrid, which has included secret sword lessons from Maestro Torres learns of her fathers accidental death. Returning to California with her Gypsy friend and servant Marta, she finds her father's manservant a thief, her home in ruins and the local people under the rule of a tyrannical governor. In a dream her father comes to her and speaks of his hidden gold, his murder, and of his "Avenging Angel". Tessa decides her destiny is to become that Avenging Angel, The Queen of Swords. The name taken from one of Marta's tarot cards.

Characters
Tessa has secret sword lessons in Madrid as her father would not approve. On the death of her father after an accidental fall from his horse, Tessa returns to Santa Helena, Spanish California, to discover Montoya's law.
To control Tessa Alvarado, Montoya orders Capt, Grisham to propose marriage to Tessa.
Marta discovers Tessa's father did not die in an accident.
All the main characters except Dr Helm appear in this story. Tacho González is credited only in the end credits (as is Anthony De Longis). He would be later credited as a guest star in all the episodes he appears in.
