Metalocalypse is an animated musical comedy created by Brendon Small and Tommy Blacha. The Adult Swim series is, as outlined by Small, about "a metal band that is about a million times bigger than the Beatles. But a million times more dangerous and a millions times more stupid." The series premiered on August 6, 2006.
Originally, the series was pitched as Deathclock, but the name was changed due to an existing copyright. The series and band bames were renamed to Dethklok in response to the perceived legal issue. This was later extended to Death Clock Metalocalypse (with the band name still "Dethklok") and ultimately shortened to simply Metalocalypse. The "Metalocalypse" refers to the apocalyptic threat that Dethklok represents to a conspiratorial council established to mitigate the damage they cause.
The show is written and produced at Titmouse, Inc. in Hollywood, California. The studio has produced shows such as MTV's Downtown, and The Amazing Screw-On Head.
