Knots Landing represented CBS's attempts to ride out the success of Dallas even further through the creation of a spin-off. The series, much like its parent series, was an hour long primetime soap opera. Initially, Knots Landing revolved around four families living on the same cul-de-sac on Seaview Circle, however later on the series shifted from a simple family drama to criminal investigations and corporate intrigue in order to compete with L.A. Law.
