Character History

Mary Frances Sumner was born in Sacramento where he lived with her father Gregory Sumner and his wife Jane. When Greg was running for Senator, Jane and Mary France came along to give him support. After a disagreement with Greg, Mary Frances moves in with the MacKenzies and has a brief relationship with Karen's oldest son, Eric. Jane comes to retrieve Mary Frances and apologizes for Greg's behavior and they head back to Sacramento.

After six years, Mary Frances comes back to Knots Landing from Africa to see Greg. She gets on Greg for not being there for her and only sending money to Jane. One day, while Mary Frances was in Greg's office, she was shot and killed.

Mary-Frances was murdered by her boyfriend, Robert Scarrow, when he shot her through the windows of the Sumner Group's offices. He claimed, however, that Mary-Frances was already dying of camaride poisoning, the chemical Greg's company dumped in a country they were volunteering in. Robert then poisons Greg and turns himself in. As a result, Greg has to have a liver transplant which turns out successful.
