- Kasem had done a local music show in Los Angeles called Shebang! His first cartoon voice was that of Robin the Boy Wonder in 1968 on Filmation Associates' Batman cartoon for CBS. His American Top 40 countdown show started in 1970, and the first song that charted no. 1 on the list was "Mama Told Me Not To Come" by Three Dog Night.
- Kasem's most popular and prolific cartoon role was that of Shaggy on Scooby-Doo. His very first line as Shaggy, from the debut episode "What a Night for a Knight": "What a nervous night to be walking home from the movies, Scooby-Doo. And all because you had to stay and see Star, Dog Ranger of the North Woods twice!"
