What's New Scooby-Doo? is an animated comedy that aired on The WB and Cartoon Network.
Essentially an updated version of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You, the series continues to following the mystery-busting exploits of Mystery Inc. with a 21st century touch. The Mystery Machine is a modern van tricked out with GPS, and the kids' mysteries take them to places such as Australia, a skateboard contest in San Francisco, the Cathedral of Notre Dame, and much more.
The series also experiments a bit with the star characters. Fred, who was straight laced at first, tends to be a little addled. Daphne is brash and in-your-face once in awhile. Velma, while still the brains of the group, harbors a secret fear in a specific episode: she's afraid of clowns, a neurosis from her younger salad days when a birthday party clown destroyed her prize present, an encyclopedia set. Shaggy is still the cowering chow hound, and Scooby is still Scooby. In a nod to earlier Scooby-Doo series The New Scooby-Doo Movies, the show featured some guest stars in cartoon form such as baseball's Mike Piazza, hockey's Brett Hull, and rock group Simple Plan (which also performed the show's theme song).
The show received an Emmy nomination during its run. Mindy Cohn (Natalie on The Facts of Life) got the nod for her voice role as Velma.
