WHNS is the call-sign for the FOX affiliate for the Greenville, South Carolina market and is licensed to Asheville, North Carolina. It broadcasts on digital channel 17, mapped on tuners as virtual 21, serving northwestern South Carolina. extreme northeast Georgia and western North Carolina. The station's studios are along Interstate 85 just outside Greenville and their transmitter is just outside Spartanburg. The station has six repeaters that transmit to the valley areas of North Carolina.

WHNS signed on in 1984 as a standard independent. A transmitter permit for channel 21 had been approved as early as 1953 but legal issues prevented the station from being built. WHNS became a Fox affiliate in 1988 after former affiliate WAXA (now WMYA/channel 40) in Anderson went off the air. The station picked up UPN as secondary in 1995 then relinquished it to WASV/channel 62 (now WYCW). They ran Pax as secondary from 1998 to 2003 (Pax moved to now defunct WAEN-LP/channel 64). They began digital transmissions in 2000 on channel 57; it moved to 21 in June 2009 as the digital spectrum encompasses channels 2 through 51 (it now ends at 36 after the digital repack completed in 2020). In September 2019, WHNS moved its digital RF to 17.

WHNS has its network programming controlled from parent Gray station WGCL, the CBS affiliate in Atlanta, Georgia. WHNS is now under ownership of Gray Television.
