- Grew up in Sunnyvale, California, which is near her birth place of Palo Alto.
- Father Owen, is a Nuclear Physicist and mother Esther, is a computer programmer.
- Attended Fremont High School, and captained the school's cheerleading team, the Featherettes before graduating in 1982. The class voted her the "Most Likely to Become a Solid Gold Dancer".
- Began studying acting at the American Conservatory Theater while pursuing an undergraduate degree in mathematics and engineering at De Anza College in Cupertino, California.
- Was a member of the San Franciso 49ers Cheerleading squad known as the Gold Rush.
- Has 1 daughter, Emerson Rose Tenney (b. 1997) with ex-husband Jon Tenney.
