Talk:Batman
I don't like the way it's done now. I think it's better to take people straight to the disambiguation page. It's a cleaner, non-preferenced based system. -- Lampbane 13:21, 24 August 2006 (EDT)
- Fine, if the problem was that the original move was "half-assed", I'll fix it myself either tonight or this weekend. I'm willing to do the work if it means a better user experience. (And yes, I know I'm kind of arguing with myself at this point.) -- Lampbane 13:30, 24 August 2006 (EDT)
- There are almost 200 pages that link to 1966 Batman article. Moving the article but leaving all those links now pointing to the disambiguation page is indeed "half-assed".
- Also, I don't agree with the move in the first place, but I can't articulate exactly what I don't agree with. DCEdwards1966 | Talk 14:11, 24 August 2006 (EDT)
- Was I arguing with you on that point? No. Like I said, I'll fix all 200 links myself when I have the time. I just didn't think about it when I moved stuff around (oops). And I really hate when putting some generic term into the search/go box and getting a specific page that's not the one I want. Which is the majority of instances. So I prefer pointing people to the disambiguation page first. You could argue that generic terms usually point to the option that people are mostly likely to be searching for (which is true for Wikipedia) but honestly, I think more people will be looking for one of the other Batman series instead. I think laying out options for people upfront is better than telling them what they're looking for. -- Lampbane 14:32, 24 August 2006 (EDT)
I side with Batman being a disambiguation page. The main namespace applies to shows, people, and cross-show characters. Batman is a character first, a show second. Batman should be a character page when someone feels like making it, and a disambiguation page until then imo. --MateoP 15:00, 24 August 2006 (EDT)
- No, it doesn't. The main name-space applies to shows, people and franchises (i.e. Battlestar Galactica). Cross-show characters belong in their respective show pages. Especially because characters like Batman have different interpretations between shows. Adam West and Batman: The Animated Series are wildly different characters, even though they come from the same source material. In this case, the disambiguation page should be the main Batman article if possible. --IndieRockLance 15:14, 24 August 2006 (EDT)
I think Batman should be the disambiguation page for the simple reason that their is a show called The Batman that is currently airing and is probably just as likely to be what people are looking for/linking to. Disambiguation pages aren't only for searches but also for when people accidently link to it. It's pretty common for people to leave off the's in titles when linking to articles.-The-jam 16:47, 24 August 2006 (EDT)
- I moved ALL of the pages and corrected all of the links. So the Adam West series is now at Batman (1966) and the disambiguation page is at Batman. It would be greatly appreciated if someone could delete the main Batman article so we can move this page and its discussion back there. -- Lampbane 14:15, 29 August 2006 (EDT)
