From The TV IV

Battlestar Galactica, in its various incarnations, deals with the aftermath of the attack of deadly robots (alien robots in the first series, human-created robots in the second) on human-populated colonies. After the destruction of those colonies, in both series, a rag-tag fleet composed of the remnants of the Twelve Colonies leaves known space on a long quest to find the fabled lost thirteenth colony: Earth.
