Caprica is a dramatic science fiction program ordered by Syfy. It is a spinoff in the form of a prequel to the 2003 version of Battlestar Galactica, taking place over fifty years before the events of that program. The program will follow the lives of two families, the Graystones and the Adamas, alongside the development of the first Cylon. A two-hour pilot movie was ordered in 2008 and was originally intended as a backdoor pilot but the network went ahead and ordered a full season, scheduled to start airing in 2010. Instead of premiering on television, the pilot was released on DVD and video download on April 21, 2009.
