Season Five of Star Trek: The Next Generation premiered on September 23, 1991.

During the fifth season, we saw the addition of two new supporting cast members, Ensign Ro Laren and Worf's son Alexander, as well as the reappearance of the Borg for the first time since the attempted attack on Earth. We also saw the introduction of the Maquis, the rebel faction that would go on to play a major role in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and almost play a major role in Star Trek: Voyager.
