Season One of Sonic X premiered on April 6, 2003. In the USA, this season aired as two seasons, with episodes 1–26 being Season One and 27–52 being Season Two.

In the first 26 episodes, during a battle with Eggman, Sonic and friends are sent to the town of Station Square on Earth. There, they meet new friends, such as the Thorndyke family, namely twelve-year-old Christopher Thorndyke. Sonic and friends are after the seven Chaos Emeralds, which they need to return to their home world, but Eggman wants them to take over the "new world".

The next 26 episodes, 27-52, are loosely based on the original 3-D Sonic the Hedgehog video games such as Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 for the Sega Dreamcast video game console. In the end, Sonic returns to his home world, but Chris vows to see him again.
