Chaos Control Freaks is the first episode of the first season of Sonic X, and the first episode overall.
The power of Chaos Control sends Sonic and friends to another world. There, Sonic meets a competitor named Sam Speed, and a new friend named Christopher Thorndyke.

Plot Overview
One night, underneath the moon, a speedy blue hedgehog named Sonic is attempting to infiltrate a heavily-guarded base. He uses his super speed to evade nearly every robot and missile being fired at him, until he steps on a trap that springs him into the air and out of the base. When this happens, Sonic's friend, a fox named Tails, and their hedgehog friend Amy, fly by in Tails' plane, the X-Tornado. Tails fires a missile at Sonic, which contains a power ring that Sonic uses to get back into the base.
One of the robots fires a missile at the X-Tornado, creating a hole in it. The X-Tornado is about to crash into a rock with Tails and Amy in it! Just then, Knuckles the Echidna uses his strong fists to destroy the rock. Tails, Amy, and Knuckles watch from a distance as Sonic continues to infiltrate the base.
Dr. Eggman and his robots Decoe and Bocoe are inside the base, as well as Cream the Rabbit and her Chao, Cheese, both of whom are trapped in a spherical glass casing. Rouge the Bat is inside the base too, but she is watching from above so no one notices her. Sonic bursts into the base in the nick of time as Dr. Eggman is about to insert the Chaos Emerald that will activate the base, but is too busy gloating to press the activation button. Sonic taunts Eggman as he sends a robot to fire at Sonic, but the robot instead fires at Eggman. Eggman ducks, but the robot ends up shooting the center of the base. This activates the power of the emeralds, known as Chaos Control. All of a sudden, the entire base and everything around it is engulfed in light, including everyone in the vicinity of the base.
Sonic wakes up in what looks like total darkness, but then some mysterious lights appear. These lights appear to be headlights by cars. Sonic has been transported to another world! Sonic looks around himself and sees tall buildings and people driving cars on the street, and he's created a traffic jam! The police try to catch Sonic, but he's too fast and he escapes. They alert the authorities that Sonic is coming, and they set up a road block as Sonic runs toward it. The police are confident that Sonic can't get “through, under, or around them”, but instead, he jumps over them!
The policemen at the road block alert the headquarters that Sonic cleared the road block, and a racer named Sam Speed overhears this and sees it as a challenge. He calls for his Speed Team to help him suit up for a race, and they help him build the perfect Formula One race car. The S-Team gets in their own vehicles and Sam leads them to where Sonic is.
Sonic is sitting on a street light staring off into space, and the explosion at Eggman's base replays in his head. Sonic wonders where his friends are, so he gets ready to go find them, and jumps off the street light back onto the road, when all of a sudden, he sees the S-Team driving toward him. Sam Speed tells Sonic about the S-Team and how he wants to be the fastest person in the world, and challenges Sonic to a race. Sonic gets a head start, but the S-Team surrounds him. As Sonic escapes, the S-Team warns Sam Speed about how fast Sonic really is. Determined to prove he is the fastest, Sam Speed activates the nitro fuel in his Formula One race car, and zooms ahead until he and Sonic are neck and neck. The only way Sonic can beat him is if he goes supersonic.... but then, Sonic unleashes a Sonic Boom, where he runs faster than the speed of sound!
Unfortunately, Sonic doesn't realize that the road ahead is incomplete, and thus he goes flying off the road. He is descending into a neighborhood, but all the shining lights around him look pretty. He decides he should stay, and thinks he'll enjoy it here. Just then, he realizes he's falling straight into a backyard pool, and Sonic can't swim!
When Sonic hits the pool, the loud splash wakes up the boy inside the house. The boy dives into the pool and rescues Sonic. The boy introduces himself as Christopher Thorndyke.

- No Longer Chaos Control?: In the original version, when Amy asks about the explosion, Knuckles says, "Chaos Control...". In the dub, he says, "It used to be Chaos Control." Apparently, 4Kids mistook "Chaos Control" for the name of Eggman's base.
