Sonic X is an anime action series. It is roughly based on the Sonic Adventure video game series, and is the fourth series to feature Sonic the Hedgehog. The series sends Sonic and his friends to a planet inhabited by humans after an explosion during a battle with Dr. Robotnik. Sonic and a young boy named Christopher must stop Robotnik from finding the seven Chaos Emeralds which he would use to take over the planet.
The series was dubbed for American audiences by 4 Kids Entertainment in 2003. However, this dubbed version has been criticized greatly for heavily editing the episodes in order to make it child-friendly. Several changes were made to distance it from the video game series as well, including rejecting Ryan Drummond, the original voice actor for the Sonic Adventure games, because he didn't live in New York City and removing direct quotes from the video games and the theme song to Sonic Adventure 2 in episode 38.
In Japan, one season of 52 episodes aired. However, in the USA, these 52 episodes aired as two 26 episode seasons. Additionally, a second season (third in USA) of 26 episodes were produced but they did not air in Japan, and aired in USA starting in September 2005. This second season isn't based on the video game series and takes a more original approach.
