Barack Obama is the 44th President of the United States. Though Obama was mentioned frequently during the run-up to the 2008 presidential election, a proper impression of him was formulated until the first show after the end of the 2007 Writers Strike when Fred Armisen took on the role.

Basic Information
During the 2008 election, Illinois Senator Barack Obama managed to win the Democratic primary race (despite a hotly contested battle with Hillary Clinton) and rallied the nation with a message of change against Republican candidate Senator John McCain. After a race that gradually got uglier over time, Obama managed to win the election in a near landslide and became the first African-American to be elected president.
Fred Armisen is the only Saturday Night Live cast member to portray Obama. Although the race had technically started at least two years before election day, an impression of Obama didn't appear in SNL sketches until February 2008, after the WGA strike had ended. Unlike his predecessor, whose speech flubs provided a wealth of comedic potential, Obama's demeanor is much more reserved and, frankly, less obviously funny. Many of his appearances make light of his cool demeanor and his policies, rather than absurd quotations.
In addition to Armisen, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has appeared in two sketches, not as Barack Obama but rather as an Incredible Hulk style version known as "The Rock Obama." In these sketches, lawmakers make Obama so furious that he loses his temper and turns into a muscle-bound version of himself. He retains his unflappable personality, but adds a propensity for throwing people who cross him out the Oval Office window.
Candidate Obama appeared as himself on SNL in 2007 as well, predating the Armisen parody by several months.
