• Attended Canby Lane Elementary School and Towers High School in Decatur, Georgia
• Moved to Fort Myers, Florida during her junior year of high school where she attended Cypress Lake High School, graduating in 1975
• Attended Edison State College where she majored in Theatre, but left the school to pursue acting full time
• Was a member of The Groundlings comedy troupe
• She was originally turned down for a regular spot on "Saturday Night Live" because they thought she was too old (at the time she was 28 years old); she was hired the following year when she was 29 years old
