[edit] Biography
Born December 4, 1966 in Valley Stream, New York, Fred Armisen began his entertainment career as a musician. In 1988, he moved from his native New York to Chicago, where he became a drummer for the punk band Trenchmouth. He also was a drummer for (but not a member of) the Chicago branch of the Blue Man Group.
However, Armisen was fascinated with comedy and even as a musician listed his influences as Andy Kaufman and Peter Sellers. In 1998, he filmed a short film, Guide to Music and South by Southwest, a mockumentary review of the famous Texas music festival. The underground success of the film led him to Los Angeles, where he wrote for and performed in the sketch troupe Largo, where he worked with comic and former Saturday Night Live writer Bob Odenkirk. He also performed stand-up comedy.
His success in comedy led him to a Saturday Night Live audition. The producers liked his work, and Armisen became a Featured Player. In the thirtieth season, he became a full-fledged ensemble member. He became famous there for his impressions of Prince and Tony Danza, amongst others, as well as his character Fericito.
Armisen continues to work on SNL and lives in New York, New York.
