Basic Information

After Oceanic 815

Season Four

Captain Gault was hired by Charles Widmore to carry a group of people, primarily scientists and security people, to the island. Captain Gault was lead to believe that Benjamin Linus, a native of the island, was responsible for placing a plane wreckage with 324 dead bodies at the botton of the ocean in order to fool the world into believing that it was Oceanic 815, a plane that crashed over the South Pacific on 22 September 2004.

The island was eventually located by Naomi Dorrit when she took a helicopter out and parachuted onto the island. Naomi had a satellite phone with her and the freighter was contacted by Jack Shephard, one of the Oceanic survivors. George Minkowski, the freighter's communications officer, was able to get a fix on the island's location.

Frank Lapidus, a pilot, took three team members to the island and returned with Desmond Hume and Sayid Jarrah. Martin Keamy, the head of security, locked the two in the sick bay, but they demanded to see the captain. While locked up, a note was slipped through the door telling them not to trust the captain.

A day later, the ship's doctor, Ray, took them the the deck of the ship to meet Captain Gault. While waiting for him, a woman named Regina, wrapped in chains, jumped overboard. Sayid and Desmond wanted to help but were ordered by Captain Gault to ignore her. He expained who he was working for and that their orders were to capture Benjamin Linus and take him back to the mainland.

Captain Gault had a lot to deal with - some crew members were suffering from what the captain referred to as "severe cabin fever" due to the proximity of the island. This is what caused Regina to commit suicide. On top of that, someone was sabotaging the freighter. The radio room had been completely destroyed and the engines were out of order. Captain Gault was shocked when Sayid revealed that the saboteur was one of the deckhands - Kevin Johnson. Captain Gault was even more surprised when Sayid revealed that Kevin was actually Michael Dawson, another Oceanic survivor who had escaped the island and was now working undercover as a spy for Ben on the freighter. Captain Gault had Michael locked up in a room.

When Keamy and five other security guys returned from the island, it became clear to Captain Gault that their mission was more than just capturing Ben. It was quite apparent that they had just been part of an attack. Keamy revealed that they were going to torch the island, killing everyone on it. He ordered the Captain Gault to open the safe so that they could use the "secondary protocol".

Realizing that Keamy was up to no good, Captain Gault warned Sayid and Desmond to hide. Sayid asked Captain Gault to give him the freighter's zodiac raft so that he could start ferrying his fellow survivors from the island to the freighter. Captain Gault agreed and gave Sayid the boat. That night, Keamy and his men were preparing for an attack on the island. Captain Gault refused to let them leave, holding Keamy at gunpoint. However, when Captain Gault lost focus for only a second, Keamy grabbed a gun and shot him dead.
