KSWB-TV is the FOX affiliate for San Diego, California, a full service television station broadcasting over the air on channel 69. Its branding of Fox 5 San Diego denotes its position on all San Diego cable systems, on channel 5.
KSWB-TV started in 1984 as independent KTTY. It became an affiliate of The WB network in 1995 and was renamed KSWB by Tribune, which took ownership at that time. In 2006, KSWB became a CW affiliate after the WB and UPN shut down their operations and merged. KSWB aired a 10PM newscast produced and staffed by NBC affiliate KNSD, channel 39. When KSWB switched to Fox, their news became in-house produced.
On August 1, 2008, KSWB-TV switched to the FOX network, obtaining it from XETV/channel 6.
Digitally, while broadcasting on channel 19.1, KSWB is currently mapped on digital tuners as 69.1. When analog is shut down in February 2009, it will be mapped as 19.1.
