KCBD first opened in 1953 as an NBC affiliate with a secondary ABC affiliation, the affiliation was shared with CBS affiliate KLBK-TV channel 13. In 1969, the station and KLBK both dropped ABC in favor of KAMC channel 28 taking the network.
