6teen is a Canadian animated sitcom currently airing on Teletoon in Canada, and on Cartoon Network in the United States. Produced by Nelvana Limited and (beginning with Season 3) Fresh TV Inc. in association with Teletoon, the show premiered on November 4, 2004, with 80 episodes over three seasons (26 half-hour episodes per season, plus two hour-long specials) produced to date. The third season of 6teen debuted on September 5, 2007 and concluded on April 25, 2008. On February 4, 2008, Fresh TV announced that 6teen has been renewed by Teletoon for a fourth season. [1] On July 23, 2009, Teletoon announced that the fourth season of 6teen, which debuted on September 10, 2009 at 8:30 p.m., will be the show's last. [2]
In Canada, Season 4 episodes will air on Teletoon on Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. with a rebroadcast on Sundays at 8:30 p.m., while reruns of the first three seasons of 6teen air on Mondays to Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. In the United States, the show debuted on November 3, 2008 on Cartoon Network, where it airs on Thursday at 9:30 p.m. 6teen previously aired in the US on Nickelodeon in 2005 and early-2006, but its run on that channel was short-lived.
6teen follows the adventures (and misadventures) of six teenage friends who work and hang out at The Galleria, a huge shopping mall much like the real-life West Edmonton Mall in Edmonton, Canada, by way of its size and number of stores (estimated at 936 in the series pilot, "Take This Job and Squeeze It"). Typical teenage situations such as first jobs, romantic and social pursuits, and dealing with schoolwork are dealt with in humorous fashion in each episode.
Real-life retail outlets are often parodied in their 6teen equivalents at which the main characters work, shop or eat, such as the Khaki Barn (The Gap), Albatross & Finch (Abercrombie & Fitch), the Big Squeeze lemonade stand (Orange Julius), the Grind Me coffee house (Starbucks), Burger McFlipsters (Burger King), the Penalty Box sporting goods store (Foot Locker) and Stereo Shack (Radio Shack).
