Courtney Masterson is a character on 6teen. She is played by Krista Sutton.

Basic Information

Courtney is the older sister of Jen, who is envious of her because she regards Courtney as more popular, more beautiful, funnier, smarter, sexier, more stylish and more successful than she is. Another point of insecurity for Jen regarding Courtney is that although both sisters wear the same dress size, Courtney's bigger bust size makes things awkward for Jen because she feels that she cannot fill out the same types of dresses that Courtney can.

In addition to Jen's perception of her sister's superiority, Courtney has also teased Jen quite a bit when both were younger. To Jen's embarrassment when Courtney returns to town and meets the gang, Courtney explains the origin of Jen's childhood nickname, "Flash", which was given to her because Jen liked running naked around her family's backyard when she was little, which now serves as a source of embarrassment to Jen. Despite Courtney and Jen's differences, though, the two sisters do love each other and can count on each other for support when needed.

Although Courtney and Jen are both redheads, Courtney's hair is a brighter shade of red. She also speaks with a slight valley girl accent. She is no stranger to Jonesy, Jude and Wyatt, all of whom Courtney used to babysit when they were younger. She is a former employee of the Khaki Barn. She also once won a beauty pageant, and she attended university until she was kicked out during her second year and returned home. She and Jen later became big sisters to their mother's new baby girl, Emma.

Character History

While Courtney is first mentioned by Jen in "Deck the Mall" (and, before that, a hint that Jen has a sister comes up when Nikki pretends to be Jen's sister "Vikki" in a phone call to Coach Halder in "The Big Sickie"), Courtney makes her first official appearance in "It's Always Courtney, Courtney, Courtney!", when she returns home on a break from school to visit her family and she meets Jen's friends. Jen begins feeling pangs of jealousy when Courtney has the guys smitten with her and her good looks, she takes Caitlin shopping with her and she even bonds with Nikki. Jen becomes more angry when Courtney spellbinds the gang with her stories about life at college, and when Courtney tells them about some embarrassing secrets Jen has (including the origin of her nickname "Flash").

The final straw for Jen comes when Courtney gets the gang fake ID cards passing them off as 21 years old instead of their actual 16 (or in Caitlin's case at the time, 15) in order to get them into a new nightclub which has just opened at The Galleria. To upstage Courtney, Jen shows up at the club with her hair up and wearing a sexy party dress once belonging to her big sister. As Jen dances on the floor, however, the top of the dress comes undone, exposing Jen's breasts and sending her running, embarrassed, to the washroom to fix the dress up, and the rest of the gang are caught by a club bouncer and arrested by Ron the Rent-a-cop for having fake IDs, while Courtney avoids arrest because she is of legal age and strands Jen's friends by saying she is not with them. When Jen returns with her dress fixed, she finds out what Courtney has done, criticizes her for her display of selfishness and rails on her about friends and responsibility before turning her lecture into how she believes that Courtney was always their parents' favorite.

Just then, Courtney confesses to Jen that she is not home from college for spring break, but because she was kicked out of school. She then adds that Jen is the one their parents are proud of because she works hard at school, at her job and in sports, and because of her group of friends, before Courtney finishes by saying that she's the one who is jealous of Jen. Now realizing that her big sister is not as perfect as she perceived her to be, Jen reconciles with Courtney and they hug, then they devise a plan to get Jonesy, Caitlin, Nikki, Jude and Wyatt free from from the mall security holding cell, blackmailing Ron into freeing the gang and clearing their records by producing an incriminating photo of Ron wearing only a pair of thong swim briefs, which Courtney retrieved from Jonesy's job at the Glitter Shots photo studio.

Courtney returns in "The Wedding Destroyers", when she and Jen become bridesmaids for their mother's wedding to Jonesy's father. Courtney's breast size again becomes an issue when the sisters get their bridesmaid dresses and Jen, despite wearing the same dress size as Courtney, finds her dress ill-fitting on top while Courtney's dress fits perfectly. Courtney and Jen also convince Mr. Garcia, their to-be stepfather, to let them have the attic loft space at his house for their bedroom when they move in, much to the chagrin of Jonesy and his younger brother Diego, who wanted that space for themselves. The Masterson girls also take part in their mother's bridal shower at Grind Me, which is unexpectedly double-booked with the Garcia stag party at the same time, and chaos ensues until Grind Me manager Charmaine gets fed up and kicks both parties out. Later at a wedding rehearsal dinner at Super Terrific Happy Sushi, Courtney catches Jonesy looking at her breasts and chides him for it, then a food fight erupts among the Garcia and Masterson offspring until Mr. Garcia and Mrs. Masterson announce that they want to postpone their wedding until their children are all grown and living on their own, due to the kids' inability to get along. With help from Nikki and Ron, Courtney, Jen and the Garcia boys settle their differences and convince their parents to have their wedding after all. During a dance at the reception dinner afterward, Courtney catches Diego also looking at her breasts as they dance.

Courtney's third appearance comes in "A Crime of Fashion", when she appears briefly to drop Jonesy's youngest brother, the troublesome Robbie, off with Jonesy at the Soda Hop ice cream shop where he works. Jonesy objects, telling Courtney that he has a date planned with his coworker Amélie, but Courtney, who was supposed to babysit Robbie, tells him that her plans changed when she got a date of her own and has an evening out planned. She later appears in "Opposites Attack", where she meets Jen, Caitlin and Nikki at the Khaki Barn to update each other on current happenings, and Caitlin brings up the topic of Courtney several times afterward, to Nikki's chagrin. Her final appearance on the show is in the two-part Season Four premiere "Labour Day", when she accompanies most of the gang (minus Jen, who is stuck at the mall due to circumstances beyond her control) to the hospital where Courtney and Jen's mother is about to give birth, and where Courtney flirts with a handsome doctor during the wait for the baby's arrival and then supports Jen, who acts as their mother's Lamaze coach, to help with the delivery of their new baby sister.
