WZTV orginally began broadcasting on August 5, 1968, as call letters WMCV. Then in 1971, the station went silent, until 1976, when they signed back on the air as the first independent station in Nashville. Around 1990, WZTV became a charter Fox affiliate when sister station WUXP-TV reverted back to independent status. In 1990, WZTV's owner Act III Broadcasting, bought the station from TVX Broadcast Group. Then in 1993, WZTV was sold to Abry Communications. From 2001 to 2006, WZTV was the de-facto Fox affiliate for Bowling Green, Kentucky, until ABC affiliate WBKO added Fox on digital subchannel 13.2.
