{{ch}} Template

It was a huge hassle developing the House of Cards pages and having to manually type out the article path (including House_of_Cards/xxx) every time I wanted to link to a character page. The ch template alleviates the problem a little bit. Two (possible) variables go after ch ({{ch|1|2}}): the first one is for the article name and the second one is for the display text if different from the article name. If you want to link to House of Cards/Claire Underwood, just type in {{ch|Claire Underwood}}. If referring to first name only, then {{ch|Claire Underwood|Claire}} is how you do it. This was originally intended for characters (hence the "ch" shortcut), but it's also a workaround to link to any subpage within a main showpage, like seasons or episodes. Yay. Have fun. --Wizardryo\talk 16:16, 7 January 2014 (CST)

I also created an {{us}} template for linking to editors. The mechanic is the same. Here's me. --Wizardryo\talk 18:34, 9 January 2014 (CST)

Convention for different episodes with the same episode title?

Running into this problem with House of Cards, which uses the same "Chapter X" naming scheme for both its seasons. Has there been a precedent for what to call Season 2's "Chapter 1"? I could've sworn this issue has come up in the past for another show. Also, using this time to personally thank DCEdwards1966 for autogenerating much-needed episode stubs for Supernatural, Sons of Anarchy, The Walking Dead, and House of Cards! --Wizardryo\talk 16:58, 8 January 2014 (CST)

I think when I ran into same episode names, I just tacked on the year, ie "Chapter 1 (2014)" -Joltman (talk) 09:16, 14 January 2014 (CST)
Awesome, thanks. And thanks for updating the Current Calendar grids, too! --Wizardryo\talk 20:13, 14 January 2014 (CST)

Current Season template

I'm going to update the Policies page and throw up some new proposals for us to discuss hopefully over the next week or two, but just wanted to let everyone know about the quirk in the {{Current Season}} template, since it's a good one to use and is fairly prevalent: The-jam programmed in a "season X" variable into the template so that it would rank better in Google searches (ie. when someone searches for "American Horror Story season 3" or whatever). It's a little tricky to use because it's the third variable input. So, for example, season 1 of a show would use: {{Current Season|||1}}. Just a suggested template addition for everyone going forward; I've been adding that notation to pages as I come across them, and will probably go through a sweep of the remaining pages soon. --Wizardryo\talk 18:34, 9 January 2014 (CST)

I just went ahead and added the season numbers to every show in the Upcoming Season and Current Season templates. It'll be good for bringing a nontrivial amount of search hits to the site. A prime example definitely has to be pointed out for South Park/Season Eighteen, which is a first page result when you search for "South Park season 18." That's really, really impressive for a skeleton page that has next-to-nothing on it. --Wizardryo\talk 01:00, 17 January 2014 (CST)

Current_Grid_(USA)

It seems like Current_Grid_(USA) is woefully outdated. Anyone want to take a crack at curating it? Our historical grids are updated pretty often, so it'd just be a matter of updating it whenever there's a cancellation (ie. I don't think The Assets is long for this world.) Perhaps we can link that grid on the main page, also? --Wizardryo\talk 10:40, 10 January 2014 (CST)

Thanks to everyone who helped curate this! --Wizardryo\talk 01:00, 17 January 2014 (CST)
All caught up, I'll try to keep it up. -Joltman (talk) 08:30, 22 January 2014 (CST)
Awesome, thank you! Looks great. --Wizardryo\talk 22:01, 10 February 2014 (CST)

Variables

I think if we can get the Variables extension setup, we could make some of our templates better. Is that something we can do? -Joltman (talk) 12:30, 10 February 2014 (CST)

I'll send an email out to CygnusTM about this. Some extensions are harder to set up than others, but this doesn't look too intensive. --Wizardryo\talk 22:04, 10 February 2014 (CST)

{{episode}}{{season}} Templates

Both of these templates have been expanded to lessen the time it takes to create and manage pages that use them by combining out of template features in one place and auto filling certain fields. Please provide feedback on if you find the features useful so the site maintainer can see the value as well. Helmboy (talk) 19:32, 8 April 2017 (CDT)
