Templates

Thank you for the deletion and soundtrack templates. I went on a cleanup frenzy last night and the next time I do things will be even more efficient. --Sigma 12:50, 13 Aug 2005 (PDT)

No problem. Thanks for helping out with the menial cleanup tasks. I know they can get to be an ever bigger timesink than inputting in actual information. --Wizardryo 12:51, 13 Aug 2005 (PDT)

Main Page

I don't want to get into dueling edits with you on the main page, but I think that "What's On" should have a more prominent spot on the page, and that "Featured Show" and "Shows of Interest" belong in a column together. Can we compromise? Whore.gif --CygnusTM 07:08, 3 Sep 2005 (PDT)

Veronica Mars

Hi. I've started adding in earnest to the show and hopefully you are happy with it. It has occured to me that it might be worth adding a music section to the episode pages as the show is rich in it. What do you think?

Also, I haven't worked out how to add the missing episode pages. If you want to add them, I'll do my best to add the material. --Inigo 15:04, 13 Sep 2005 (EDT)

Big Brother

This is a special case, every season uses the same names for each episode (Week One, Week Two etc.). For the sake of listing the articles in categories, it only makes sense to name the articles in order of signficance e.g. Show/Season/Week, most significant to least significant. Any other system is completely non-sensical. Ed g2s 19:53, 14 Sep 2005 (EDT)

I don't understand the problem with The Amazing Race. It looks fine as it is, as has no bearing on the Big Brother setup. Big Brother is a special case because the episodes don't have unique names, so using a hierarchical naming system makes perfect sense. We don't have to use "/" at all, but the order should always be Show, Season, Week.

I took the information about the Celebrity Big Brother 2006 contestants off the official site, doesn't that count as information in the public domain, or can I only copy the names of the contestants and not the descriptions? Feel free to delete the information if you don't think it's allowed. Mazadillon 12:08, 10 Jan 2006 (EST)

buffy

According to my view, the buffy pages went up yesterday. All of the episode pages. Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Season One for example --Coolbutuseless 01:54, 16 Sep 2005 (EDT)

season *a, *b categories

  • I'm now generating them with *a, *b as appropriate to the show, eg Six Feet Under/Season Two has a category link of [[Category:Six Feet Under/Episodes|*b]], but actually following that link goes nowhere sensible. Is there something else I need to put in? --Coolbutuseless 04:08, 16 Sep 2005 (EDT)
You need to create the Category page. See one of the existing ones for more information --04:13, 16 Sep 2005 (EDT)

amazing race

Added season pages and a single episode page (for 7x12). If it looks OK for a default, let me know and I'll do the rest. (put it in the requests section on my talk page) --Coolbutuseless 04:43, 16 Sep 2005 (EDT)

amazing race is done.

see Talk:Amazing Race for the autogen. --Coolbutuseless 19:00, 17 Sep 2005 (EDT)

Daily Show

Hi Wiz,

I don't see a benefit in doing it weekly. If an episode is missed, the information won't be there whether it's in weekly or daily format. Plus, there will always be episodes missing anyway, since it's impossible to fill in the hundreds of shows that have already passed. Ideally though, there will be a point when the site gets more popular and there will be enough people working helping out so no episodes get missed. - Indecision 23:01, 20 Sep 2005 (EDT)

Wikipedia

No problem, I'll take them down. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I'll focus more on television shows, and not so much on the technology. I also didn't realize that the Creative Commons license and the GFDL conflict with each other. It was probably mentioned somewhere else and I missed it. --Randall 23:10, 26 Sep 2005 (EDT)

External reviews

Why are links to external reviews banned from an episode page (specifically that happened to a review I added to Lost)? I think they are valuable to users, and both tviv readers and the review writer are glad to use have it there. I think its better than having no review and just a placeholder. Also "in-depth" reviews is what I most miss from the old tvtome, tv.com slashed them, and now there isn't a place to find at least pointers to that valuable content, couldn't tviv at least help its users to get to those authors? Isn't the episode page the best place for linking an episode review?

--Fh

Hey, we want to make this Wiki self-inclusive, meaning that we want as few external links as possible. It may seem fine for now, but as this Wiki gets noticed by more and more people, we will end up with more external reviews than we can handle. And since there is no way of acknowledging what a "bad review" is from a "good review," we're holding off on all external reviews altogether. You can only imagine what will happen if we didn't, and a few people decide to link to their personal sites in an effort to get more exposure for their website and not as a facilitation for opinions of the episode; we can't make an exception for someone and not everyone else. I hope you understand my rationale for this; I know Billie Doux did a lot of reviews for TVTome, and I loved them all, but this isn't the place for them. If they want to shorten the review and repost it onto the site as a site review, the Wiki would be more than proud to have their talent on there. The Wiki is an information site, not a collection of links for TV shows. --Wizardryo 23:22, 30 Sep 2005 (EDT)

Well, it's your site, so your rules will apply. Meanwhile I am just trying to contribute, I'd love to have a place to fill the void tvtome left, and I think tviv has the potential to do that, so I'll invest more efforts in this conversation.

The problem I see with the policy you outline is that it won't leave space for in-depth reviews. Traditional wiki policies like wikimedia's are great for facts, in tviv's case summaries, cast, trivia, etc., validated by consensus (and it works!). But then you don't have any space for personal opinions or reviews, there is no such thing as an objective review. You know reviews are valuable to general public, they are valuable to you too, why ban them? You want people to adhere to tviv review standards, but those standards are too young to be considered standards already, and you can see that they are not working either. At least I searched for "review" using the left side box and all the results show 0 reviews for each episode! Well, not all, some episodes have 1 review: it's yours 3 line review, or IndieRockLance's. No one else seems to catch the idea.

I hope you can reconsider the policy. I agree this shouldn't be the place for each fan site around the world, but maybe there is space for some quality links. How would you filter quality from crap? Easy, just do the same as for everything else in a wiki, it will work. Anyway, thanks for creating this space and all the hard work you and your team have put into it, it trully shows a great potential.

Thanks for the kind words. I was worried I might have been a little too bold: I'm used to Wikipedia, where I just blaze in with my mop & broom. I'll carry on if that's OK with everyone. —Phil | Talk 07:52, 22 Nov 2005 (EST)

New Shannon Page

I like the idea of splitting the character history into "Pre-Crash" and "On the Island" sections.(I prefer "pre-crash" to "before the island").

I don't think it's needed to bold Abandoned, because if an episode is mentioned in the character history page to start with, it's already signifigant.

I also was trying to keep the episode descriptions on the "Character History" page brief, basically only one line, because there's no point in reiterating things that are already above it on the character page under "Season 2".

But the basic idea is a good one. More work for me, but it's not a problem.--Stabbey 16:24, 22 Nov 2005 (EST)

I'm going to start making adjustments to the other Lost pages using your templates. I've made a minor tweak to it though. I've switched "Before the Island" to "Before the Crash", because it sounds better. I will keep the bolded bits in Character history, but only for dedeicated Flashback episodes (i.e. NOT Exodus or Pilot). I also tweaked the wording of the stuff you did on Shannon's character page to make it flow better. --Stabbey 11:59, 5 Dec 2005 (EST)

House, M.D.

Adding to the other thank-yous to say thanks for your kind words about the dictionaries. I'm trying to add something unique and interesting to each title I edit - at least, all the popular ones, so I appreciate knowing that my efforts are being recognized. --JCaesar<talk> 7:56, 26 March 2006 (PST)

Capitalization in Titles

I don't think either the website or DVD should be used to determine proper capitalization. The Rome website lists one episode with an internal "the" as "The Ram Has Touched The Wall" and another as "How Titus Pullo Brought Down the Republic". Using them for more than the correct spelling isn't practical. Quite often, the titles are listed in all caps, or every word begins with a capital.

Unless we decide that "From" should always be uppercase, or there is something special about this particular instance of the word, then I don't see any reason to make an exception. DCEbot 16:56, 27 March 2006 (EST)

Amazing Race Contest

It's ok, I've been busy myself lately. Yeah, I'd like Platinum. I didn't want to bump the thread like an asshole. But thanks. I guess it pays to pull winners out of your ass before seeing the first episode even. PS. How do you change your signiture like that? I can't figure it out. --Ryvius 16:47, 17 June 2006 (EDT)

Actions taken by JCaesar

Last night, during a dispute about an article, JCaesar abused his powers by claiming that I was not allowed to continued editing the article in question until he had finished his current edit. There were actually two disputed sections in the article, One that I dispute, one that he disputed. That's important to remember. By this point, he had removed the part he disputed, but the part that I disputed remained. But I was not trying to reinsert the portion that he disputed nor was I trying to remove the part I disputed. I simply placed a {{Disputed}} tag on the top of the page.

He then blocked me, claiming that I was not disputing the article because I had not read what he was writing yet. Of course, I wasn't disputing the material he was working on (even though, now finished, the part that I was disputing has been changed). I was disputing the current revision as this is all that one can possibly dispute. Then, because he was having computer trouble, he came to my talk page and said that if I made any edits to the page until he finished, he was block me again, even edits unrelated to the dispute, he would block me again. He essentially used his technical power to get the upper hand in a dispute and punish a good user for disagreeing with him.

Now, having traveled the web and knowing that people in charge don't like to take action against others they have placed in charge, I doubt anything will be done about these 2 blatant abuses of power. But, now you know what a dangerous despot you have given a measure of power to. --MateoP 10:25, 23 July 2006 (EDT)

Help me out here. This guy is unreasonable and stubborn; unwilling to compromise on anything. Despite giving and giving (3 compromises on my part), he refuses to negotiate on a Quotes section on people pages, while simultaneously supporting a trivia section (which has the exact same "problems"). This is despite the fact that I have suggested requiring citations for quotes, and not asking for them for the trivia section. I implore you to contribute to that proposal page, as one of the few reasonable people here, and stop letting this guy shape the wiki to his liking, to the detriment of everyone else. --MateoP 08:01, 31 July 2006 (EDT)

SNL

Thanks, JCaesar and I have been trying to make the less narrative shows a little easier to cover for the wiki. I haven't really thought about promoting it within the SNL threads though, since it seems like 90% of the people who post in those threads don't even like the show all that much. And, given the simplicity of most sketches, I've been able to cover the episodes live without too much of a problem anyway. --IndieRockLance 21:00, 20 December 2006 (EST)

Template:Stub

I'm afraid your new Template:Stub overlaps right-hand side info boxes, such as {{Episode}}. This is really bad. —Naddy 19:57, 31 December 2006 (EST)

Proposals

The problem is, I can't play with the Program template because it's locked for lowly regular users like myself, that's why I figured I'd bring it up as a proposal. As for the cast table, that one is something that would be handled differently, so I'd prefer to get others opinions first. -Joltman 10:35, 30 January 2007 (EST)

horizontal breaks versus commas

It seems to me that the horizontal break makes the items look like they don't belong together. I use it in some instances, but for separating creators of a series or writers of an episode I think that the comma works better. I guess its just a personal preference. Lost Character Template

As the "Character (Lost)" template isn't editable by normal users, could you add a Flashforward Count to it? --Cheshire Cat 23:17, 10 December 2007 (EST)
