Plot Overview

After taunting Dwight by putting his desk in the bathroom, Jim overhears that Dwight is a Simpai at his local dojo. After some needling, Michael joins the fun and invites Dwight to punch him which he does. Michael, concealing the pain, retreats to his office but, with some careful manipulating by Pam and Jim, agrees to a rematch at Dwight's dojo over the lunch hour. The two fight and Michael soundly beats him.

Back at work, Michael continues to procrastinate on filling out the timesheets and invoices for the month. To put it off, he has everyone update their emergency numbers and begins harassing Ryan over his cell phone by posing as celebrities. Observing that Dwight is very unhappy at the loss and that he wants Michael removed from his contact list, Michael tells Dwight that he's been promoted to Assistant Regional Manager, although not really. The rest of the employees stay late to forge Michael's signature on the timecards.

Notes

Arc Advancement

Happenings

  • Dwight believes he is promoted to Assistant Regional Manager.

Characters

  • Jim and Pam get into a little overly friendly horseplay, and when Pam notices that Meredith has seen them quickly ends it. Afterwards, she's very short with Jim, although he bribes her with a bag of French Onion potato chips. Though it appears Pam was annoyed with Jim, her annoyance only shows when she sees her co-workers noticing their frivolities; probably just keeping up appearances.
  • Jim begins to type out an email saying, 'Hey, if that was weird today, I just wanted to...' before deleting it when he saw it was on camera.

Quotes

  • Dwight: Where is my desk?
Jim: That is weird.
Dwight: This is not funny. This is totally unprofessional.
Jim: Ok, well, you're the one who lost it.
Dwight: I didn't lose my desk.
Jim: Calm down, where is the last place you saw it?
  • Dwight: I am now Sempai, which is Assistant Sensai
Jim: Assistant to the Sensei? That's pretty cool.
Dwight: Assistant Sensei.
  • Pam: Michael tends to procrastinate a bit whenever he has to do work. Timecards, he has to sign these every Friday. Purchase orders have to be approved at the end of every month. And expense reports...all he has to do is initial these at the end of every quarter. But once a year, it all falls on the same Friday. I call it the Perfect Storm.
  • Angela: Have you signed the expense reports yet?
Michael: Yes! I have...in theory.
  • Dwight: Did I want to harm Michael? The one man I've been hired to protect?
  • Ryan the Temp's Voicemail: Seven new messages. First new message.
Michael: Hi Ryan, this is Saddam Hussein.
Ryan the Temp's Voicemail: Next message.
Michael: Hey Ryan, this is your girlfriend. And I'm mad.
  • Michael: (as Dwight comes into his office) Oh, hey! Karate Kid. The Hilary Swank version.
