Arc Advancement

Happenings

  • Abigail never wound up getting married to Will, as he soon just moved out of state and wrote a book. However, they did conceive a child together named Sammy Jo.
  • When Sam visits Laura, he discovers she is covered in burns, implying that was actually there when the Fuller home burned. To clear Abigail's supposed history, he has Laura on the witness stand where she confesses that she happened upon Violet after her confrontation with Abigail. There was an altercation and Violet fell back into a well, her locket being the only thing Laura managed to grab.
  • Violet's remains were found in the well and Leta Aider wanted to build a case, but the Louisiana statutes wouldn't allow it. She was then found murdered in the Fuller kitchen. Sam then builds the case that Leta went mad after learning the statute, wrecked the kitchen and, in her desperation to take down Abigail, slit her own throat (just like Abigail's grandmother). This is initially ridiculed until Sammy Jo comes forward to confess that she saw it all.

Characters

  • Sam still has feelings for Abigail.
  • Sam is physically and mentally connected to Stanton during the leap and seems to feel his medical issues he suffers.
  • Sammy Jo is actually Sam's daughter as she was conceived during his leap. She inherited his intelligence, but originally squandered it. However, after saving Abigail, Sammy Jo is now working on Project Quantum Leap with an idea on how to get Sam back. She doesn't know Sam is her father and, according to Al, he won't either when he leaps.

Trivia

The Show

  • Sammy Jo is only 14 years younger than Sam.
  • Sammy Jo was planned for not one, but two different projects that never came to fruition. One was called Time Child by Deborah Pratt. The other was a failed sequel series named Quantum Leap: A Bold Leap Forward.
  • The subtitle "The Last Door" does not appear on screen, but is still listed on the DVD set as "The Last Door - Trilogy Part 3".

Behind the Scenes

  • Originally aired with Part 2 as a single, double-length episode. As such, there was more content with this third part that was edited out for syndication (which is the version used for home video). The original episode included the following:
  • Extra dialogue when Marie visits Larry on his front porch.
  • Longer monologue right before Sam first arrives and visits the police station.
  • An entire extra scene during the first courtroom scene where Denton Waters gives his opening statement.
  • A slightly extended version of the end of the first courtroom scene.
  • Extra dialogue between Sam and Al and Sam and Laura during the scene where she gives him the locket.
  • An extra black-and-white flashback during the second courtroom scene revealing Clayton decided to keep Laura's secret after she told him and forbid her to tell the story to anyone.
  • A different tag appears at the end of the episode. Instead of "Promised Land", it was for "Moments To Live".
  • There were also longer end credits.
