The Night Strangler is the second Kolchak: The Night Stalker movie which aired as part of the ABC Movie of the Week. It is a sequel to the previous ABC Movie of the Week The Night Stalker, which had been filmed as a pilot and was one of the highest-rated movies of that banner to date. Although the original was set in Los Angeles, this sequel was set in Seattle.
