Season Five of Justice League premiered on September 17, 2005 with very little promotion on Cartoon Network. Following the events of the fourth season, this season picks up with the Justice League spread across the globe and follows a main storyarc involving the newly formed Legion of Doom.

Unfortunately, the show disappeared from the schedule in late September and remained in limbo for five months even though the season had been completed. Unconfirmed rumors of disagreements behind the scenes and evidence of a radical change in Cartoon Network's programming direction left the future of this series undetermined for many months before it was officially not renewed.
