Plot Overview

"Destroyer" concludes the season arc "Legion Of Doom". Lex Luthor's faction of the Legion returns to Earth in search for the aid of the Justice League, after the villains accidentally unleashes the maniac god Darkseid instead of Brainiac. The Justice League and the Secret Society come together in alliance to stop this threat as revenge thirsty Darkseid and his creatures invade Earth.

While Superman and Batman battle Darkseid and the rest of the meta-humans battle Apokolips troops, Luthor gets the unusual aid from Metron to get Darkseid’s ultimate object of desire: the Anti-life Equation. At the climax the Earth was saved by Luthor in deux ex machina fashion, when he offers the Equation to Darksaid and they both vanished.

Batman concedes the Secret Society 3 minutes before the League chases them. The final moment features, all members running down the stairs of the Metropolis Watchtower in groups according to the era of comics each character belongs.

Trivia

The Show

  • Airdate: This episode first aired in Britain on February 18, 2006.
  • Invasion Earth: This episode is the second Justice League season finale where Earth is invaded by the inhabitants of another planet.
  • This episode was the finale to both the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited television series. It can be seen as a finale to the previous Dini/Timm animated Superman series as well, much as last season's episode, "Epilogue" can be seen as a finale to the stories of both the previous animated Batman and Batman: Beyond series, and their main characters. In that Batman-centric episode from Season 2, the basic final fate of both major Batman DCAU characters is explored, while here (and indirectly in the previous episode, "Alive") we see the possibly final fates of Superman's two major antagonists over the years and various series: Luthor and Darkseid.
  • This is the first episode to see the original founding members of the Justice League together since Season 4's penultimate episode "Divided We Fall".

Superman: That's where I wanna go.
Mr. Terrific: I imagine so. It's in Metropolis, hovering over the Daily Planet.
  • Wonder Woman: Get away from here! It's not safe.
Civilian: Don't worry. I'm here to help.

Wonder Woman: Hera!
  • Superman: That man won't quit as long as he can still draw breath. None of my team mates will. Me, I've got a different problem. I feel like I live in a world made of cardboard, always taking constant care not to break something, to break someone. Never allowing myself to lose control, even for a moment, or someone could die. But you can take it, can't you, big man? What we have here is a rare opportunity for me to cut lose and show you just how powerful I really am.
