Plot Overview

As Angel tries to move on, the repercussions of his attempt to get Connor unfold at the Hyperion. The hotel is locked up when it’s invaded by slug-like creatures that emerge from a rip as a result of the spell Angel had cast. The one person they can help them is the one person they’ve cut off.

Notes

Monster of the Week

  • Thaumogenisis: The slugs that infested the Hyperion are referred to as thaumogenisis, a creature byproduct of powerful dark magic. The slugs are parasites which enter the body through the mouth and suck it dry of moisture. They're drawn to water and can only be removed from a body through dehydration (particularly from alcohol).

Body Count

Happenings

Characters

  • Wesley: Wesley's appearance has changed quite a bit since being released from the hospital. The lack of glasses and the beard are visual representations of how his character's attitude has changed. From this point on, Wesley is a much darker character.
  • Connor: Angel's son makes his triumphant return to this plane of reality at the end of the episode. It seems that time runs differently in the dimension he was in, because he's no longer a baby.

Referbacks

  • BtVS - 3x10 - Amends: Snow fell in Sunnydale two years prior to this episode on Christmas. The snowfall came in time to save Angel from being vaporized by sunlight because the clouds blocked any sunlight from getting through.
Angel: It does never snow in southern California.
Cordy: It did once.
  • 2x10 - Reunion: Angel allowed Darla and Drusilla to kill all of the lawyers in Holland's wine cellar. Instead of going in to save them, he locked the doors from the outside. The only ones to survive were Lindsay and Lilah.
Lilah: Dark side shmark side. Remember a year ago? Wine cellar, slaughter?

Trivia

The Show

Behind the Scenes

  • Credits Change-Up: Vincent Kartheiser's guest star credit was held until the end in order to keep the reappearance of Connor a surprise.

Allusions and References

Memorable Moments

  • Strong Password: When Lilah gets a confidential e-mail message that requires a password to read, she opens a compartment behind her desk, takes out a metal box, keys in a combination to open the box, takes out a smaller box, from which she takes a live tarantula, and puts the spider on the computer keyboard where the critter enters the password.

Quotes

  • Groosalugg: Angel, you and I have fought side by side on more than one occasion - fellow warriors, shoulder to shoulder. By now, my counsel must assuredly hold weight, so I beseech you to heed my words.
Angel: Okay.
Groosalugg: Pomegranate Mist is the wrong colour for this room.
Angel: What?
Fred: We were just thinking - well, actually, I was thinking and Groo agreed - that, well, since you have to repaint the room anyway, maybe you'd like a change. Y'know, for a change.
Angel: Groo agreed?
Cordelia: Don't mock. He actually has good colour sense.
Groosalugg: Sunburst Splendor is a hue more worthy of a champion. Or – Or - Or perhaps this unique one called pur-plah.
Angel: Purple. Yet you have no problems pronouncing "pomegranate."
Groosalugg: It was my mother's name.
  • Gavin: You know, despite our differences, when a coworker tries to pat you on the back...
Lilah: I check for the knife.
  • Gavin: Congratulations, Lilah.
Lilah: Thanks, Gavin. (beat) Can we stop feigning now?
Gavin: Sure.
  • Cordelia: (about Groosalugg) He's such a sweetie. So loyal and loving, like a puppy dog.
Fred: Cordy?
Cordelia: I know that didn't sound very good, but he is. A puppy dog. A sexy, well-built, go-all-night puppy dog. Okay, that sounded worse.
  • Kid: Look out. Dude’s got Ebola or something.
Groosalugg: This Ebola is a weapon forged in magic?
Lorne: Uh, forged in monkey poo.
  • Angel: At least we have one advantage.
Cordelia: What, they glow in the dark? How's that supposed to help us, unless we shut off all the lights in the -- holy crap you're not serious.
  • Wesley: I was dying. Throat cut, life pouring out of me. Do you know why I fought to live again?
Gunn: Wes, I don't have time--
Wesley: I wanted to live, to see my friends again. To explain to the people I loved and trusted my side of what happened.
Gunn: We know what--
Wesley: You don't know anything. I'll help because it's Fred. But don’t come here again. Any of you.
  • Groosalugg: You are truly a goddess.
Cordelia: Well, a demoness, anyway. It beats horns and a tail.
Lorne: Hey, I’m standing right here.
  • Connor: Hi, Dad.
