Behind the Scenes
Allusions and References
- Made in Texas: The book that Darrin is reading in bed is Made in Texas: George W. Bush and the Southern Takeover of American Politics by Michael Lind. In the book, Lind outlines "Bush-style politics" and how politics in West Texas have been influenced by racism, cronyism and fundamental evangelicalism. He also examines where this brand of politics has lead West Texas and how it can be detrimental to the nation overall.
- Tonya Harding: On January 6, 1994, figure skater Nancy Kerrigan was assaulted by three men prior to the 1994 U.S. Figure Skating Championships during a practice session. One of the men was competitor Tonya Harding's ex-husband and she was eventually accused of conspiring to harm Kerrigan so that she would win the championship—which she did. Despite overwhelming evidence and testimony proving her guilt, Harding maintains her innocence despite being found guilty and barred from participating in or coaching sanctioned events.
