- When the character was conceived, it was based off of Todd Holland's father, who is a Republican and writes "angry Republican novelty" songs with titles like "That's Why the Lawyers Are So Rich." The producers tried to work these songs into every episode they could, but ran out of time in every episode. When William Sadler auditioned, he prepared his own song and recorded several for use.
