Tsubasa Chronicle — Season One

The Café in Sakura Country is the seventeenth episode of the first season of Tsubasa Chronicle, and the seventeenth episode overall. They arrive in a new world and get jobs, and Syaoran's secret is revealed.

Plot Overview

Back in Clow, a sandstorm is raging. Touya wakes up, and Yukito rushes over and tells him he needs to rest, because he is still wounded from the battle in the first episode. Touya notes that the sandstorms always start around the ruins, probably because they are protecting something there. Touya mentions that Sakura and Syaoran must be in another world now, and he remembers the first time he saw Syaoran with Sakura. He found something unsettling about Syaoran then, and told his father, who said to trust in the future.

Fei Wong Reed is also watching again. He talks to the girl with him, and she says someone else is watching Syaoran and the others. Fei says they are free to interfere when they want. He then mentions his own servant still out there.

The group lands in their next world, where a cadre of attractive girls in uniforms greet them. The land is called Ōto. The girls mention that lots of people from other worlds arrive there all the time, and then take the group to City Hall to be registered. Fai fills out the paperwork, and they are told they will need jobs in order to get money. They sell all of the clothes they've accumulated in their travels and actually manage to buy an entire building to stay in.

That night, a strange shadow creature attacks the building. It bursts in through the ceiling, and Syaoran goes to fight it. The creature manages to connect, slashing his arm. Syaoran kicks it hard on the head, and it disappears. Kurogane is watching, and has just noticed something about Syaoran.

The next day at City Hall, they are automatically rewarded for defeating the creature. It turns out that the creatures are called oni, and they tend to attack at night. They never attack civilians, but City Hall tracks their movements and there are oni slayers whose job it is to track down these oni and kill them. Because the pay is high, Syaoran is interested.

Fai fills out more paperwork, and Syaoran and Kurogane become an oni slayer team. Fai has already decided on another job: he will open a café, and Sakura will be his waitress. He explains that opening a café is a great way to get information from customers. While they are decorating, Sakura comes out in her waitress costume. Mokona's face gets scary, and it spits out chocolate pastries from Yuko. They sit down and have tea with the pastries. When Sakura mentions she likes hearing Syaoran say "thank you", he remembers a time when he was injured, and he kept telling Fujitaka he was sorry for all the trouble. Sakura comes to visit him, and she encourages him to start saying "thank you" instead to Fujitaka, who hugs Syaoran the first time he says it.

That night, Kurogane and Syaoran go out to fight oni. Fai is watching. Kurogane asks Syaoran if he really wants to do this, and Syaoran says yes, because he wants to find the missing feather. Oni attack, and Kurogane doesn't fight at first, because he wants to watch Syaoran. He saves Syaoran, destroying one oni, and reveals that Syaoran is blind in his right eye. They fight more oni, and Fai speculates that the blindness is the reason Syaoran's attack-style focuses on kicking. Syaoran says the person who trained him showed him this.

Kurogane and Syaoran destroy the oni. Just then, two people on a rooftop appear, complaining that those oni were their prey.

• ×××HOLiC: The fondant au chocolat that Mokona spits out was made by Watanuki at Yuko's request for Valentine's Day. They sent the extras to Syaoran and the others as a gift. Of course, since time moves differently in every world Syaoran and Co. travel to, they don't know why the pastries were sent at all.

• X: Yuzuriha Nekoi, Inuki, and Kusanagi Shiyu. Unlike their X counterparts, they are working together on the same side as oni hunters.
